Use Cardsmith with Claude and ChatGPT
The Cardsmith connector lets your AI assistant read and update your Cardsmith boards. Ask it to build a plan, fill in due dates and owners, move cards along, or tell you what's left, and the changes show up on the same live board your team uses.
Connector URL:
https://gocardsmith.co/mcp
Connect
You need a Cardsmith account (a free trial works). Then add the connector in your AI app and sign in with your Cardsmith email and password, or Google.
Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude mobile)
- Open Settings > Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it Cardsmith and paste
https://gocardsmith.co/mcpas the URL. - Click Connect. A Cardsmith page opens: sign in, then click Allow.
On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds the connector for the organization first.
Claude Code
Run claude mcp add --transport http cardsmith https://gocardsmith.co/mcp, then type /mcp in a session, pick cardsmith and choose Authenticate.
ChatGPT
Where your plan allows custom connectors, add an app or connector with the URL https://gocardsmith.co/mcp and OAuth sign-in
(in developer mode: Settings > Apps > Advanced settings). ChatGPT opens the Cardsmith sign-in page; sign in and click Allow.
Things to ask
- Build a Cardsmith board for our spring product launch: months January to March across the top, Product, Marketing and Sales down the side, with a card for each milestone, a due date and an owner.
- What's due in March on my "Spring product launch" board, and which cards are marked at risk?
- On the launch board, move "Beta release" to March, set its Due to 2027-03-05 and tick "QA sign-off".
- Find every card that mentions "pricing" across my boards.
- Read my "Team retro" board and summarize the themes in three bullets.
What the connector can do
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| list_boards | Lists your boards and the boards shared with you, with folders and whether you can edit each one. |
| get_board | Reads a board: column and row headers, and each cell's cards with their color, icon, fields ("Due: 2027-03-05", "Owner: Ana"), notes, checklists and links. |
| search_cards | Finds cards by text across your boards or within one board. |
| create_board | Creates a new grid board with the column and row headers you give it. |
| add_card | Adds a card to a cell, with optional color, icon, labelled fields, a checklist and a note. |
| update_card | Changes a card's title, color, icon, labelled fields or note. Can add or remove a labelled field. |
| move_card | Moves a card to another cell or position. |
| delete_card | Deletes a card, as Delete does in the app (recorded in the board's activity log). |
| set_checklist | Adds, ticks, unticks or removes checklist items. |
| add_column, add_row | Adds a column or row to a grid board. |
Grid boards can be edited through the connector. Freeform and tile boards can be read; edit those in the app. The connector can't delete boards, change sharing or touch billing.
Permissions and your data
- It acts as you. The connector can only do what your Cardsmith account can do. Boards you can only view stay read-only, and the same plan limits apply as in the app.
- You approve it. Nothing is connected until you sign in on the Cardsmith page and click Allow.
- What Cardsmith stores: which AI app you connected and its sign-in tokens (stored only as one-way hashes, refreshed regularly). Changes made through the connector are saved to your boards and show in each board's activity log like any other edit. Cardsmith's connection logs record which tool ran, when and for which account, but never your board content.
- What the AI app sees: the board content the assistant reads through the connector is sent to the AI app you're using and handled under that app's terms and privacy policy.
- Disconnect any time from the AI app's connector settings. To be sure a connection's sign-in stops working straight away, email support@cardsmith.co and we'll revoke it.
